Goa India - Sun, Sand and Spice

India, a magical place which touches the soul, offers a yoga destination like no other. Showcasing life in high contrast, with an intensity of experience, India is vibrant, inspiring and incredible. Goa, seen as India’s more gentle side, is the perfect place to dip a toe in to the home of yoga, while enjoying space to retreat into nature and relax on a virtually uninterrupted string of golden-sand beaches, stretching along the Arabian Sea. This place is a kaleidoscopic blend of Indian and Portuguese cultures, sweetened with sun, sea, sand, and spirituality. There's nowhere in India quite like it. The Portuguese arrived in Goa in 1510, and their indelible mark is still evident in the baroque architecture, whitewashed churches, crumbling forts, museums, mournful fado music and the stunning cathedrals of Old Goa. The Goan population is a mixture of Hindus and Roman Catholics, the distribution being approximately 65% Hindu and 24% Christian. Goa is regarded as one of the most peaceful states in India. The scents, spices and flavors of Goa’s cuisine will surprise and delight even seasoned travelers.

WEATHER

The best time of the year to visit Goa is mid-November to mid-February when the weather is comfortable, dry and pleasant. Temperatures start to cool down in Goa in November. The average temperature is about 27.5°C, made up of highs of 33°C during the daytime and lows of 22°C after dark. Over the course of the month, Goa enjoys an average of nine hours of sunshine every day, with an average sea temperature of 29°C . With so many hours of daily sunshine and such a warm sea temperature, November is a great month to hit the beach.  November is a dry month, with at most an inch of rain spread over three days total.

Arrival and Departure Information

Arrival

Goa can be reached by plane, by train, and by the many buses connecting the state with cities in India (primarily Mumbai, Mangalore and Bangalore). If you are traveling from Mumbai or Pune, car travel will provide you a journey through breathtaking scenery of the Konkan area.

The Dabolim airport (Goa International Airport (IATA: GOI), in Vasco da Gama is Goa's only airport. Some airlines fly directly to Goa, but most international flights arrive via Mumbai. Air India has international flights to Kuwait and UAE twice a week. Qatar Airways has flights to Doha, along with convenient connections to Western Europe, Africa and USA. Flights can be chartered to the UK, Germany, Russia and Switzerland.

Kaju Varo is about an hour’s drive from Goa International Airport. Guests will be met at the airport by a driver with a printed sign at arrivals. We’ll organize individual and group transfers. We can have up to 7 people per vehicle - there are a few different options and we'll work out what's best according to who's arriving when.

We can provide a list of recommended nearby hotels and guest houses to stay before or after the retreat and can also assist with booking.

Visa

You will need to apply for a tourist visa online a minimum of 4 days before arrival in India. The cost is dependent on your nationality and varies between $48 - $60 for a 30 day visa. Full instructions and application here:
