Purpose

Zuna Yoga® is a systematic approach to applying the wisdom of timeless yogic traditions to modern living. It is a formula to realize your grandest vision of life. Health, joy, success, and freedom are fundamental desires we all spend time either pondering or pursuing. Our system masterfully brings together the teachings of yogic sages and modern scientific perspectives of neuroscience, psychology, physiology and anatomy to create an unparalled experience of personal understanding and development. The benefits of our method can be applied to nearly any achievement which can include: personal, professional, relationship, health, financial, or the experience of spiritual splendor.

Whether you're a writer, doctor, parent or CEO, every job requires the use of tools. These could be language, software, or a scalpel. To more effectively hone our ability to do a job skillfully, we refine our use of these tools. Yoga is no different. Yogis can use their tools to accomplish specific goals, not just as a means of postural perfection. Yes, it can make us feel good to do advanced yogic postures or difficult breathing exercises. But there's more to it. When a doctor holds a scalpel, her intention goes much deeper than making a simple incision. There is a greater goal or vision guiding the actions. Similarly, we can direct the power of yoga to assist us in creating a brilliant and powerful life, driven by purpose.

Lineage and structure of the Zuna Yoga® System

Traditionally, our school of yoga can be defined as Tantric Hatha Vinyasa, in the context of the Sri Vidya tradition of India, one of the oldest schools of Tantra. Sri is often defined as the innate, blissful essence of divinity or sublime beauty, while Vidya defined variously as knowledge, science, or philosophy. Thus, Sri Vidya can be defined as the "knowledge of that which is most beautiful"; "the science of beauty"; "the science of being"; or "the science of living the experience of sublime beauty". As a science, Sri Vidya is a system of connecting to this majestic source and allowing its energies and expressions to manifest, guided by harmony and balance. This is not a reference to a force external to our own existence. It is the core of all living things, as well as the totality of all that exists. Connecting to and working with the multifaceted expressions of creativity is the aim of the science of Sri. The result is the ability to express and experience these qualities in our own individual consciousness, and yet remain aligned, empowered and in knowledge of the laws of the One. Zuna Yoga® also draws inspiration from the Advaita Vedanta lineages of Shankaracharya, the Bihar School of Yoga®, founded by Swami Satyananda Saraswati, himself a disciple of Swami Sivananda Saraswati; Swami Rama, Shankaracharya of the Karvirpitham Math and founder of the Himalayan Institute; and the yogic lineages of Sri T.K.V. Krishnamacharya, the South Indian grandmaster of Modern Yoga.

The traditional structure of Zuna Yoga® is primarily drawn from the Tantric teachings of the Gheranda Samhita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Siva Samhita, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and the Vedas. Each tradition of yoga has a systematic approach to its science. Patanjali Yoga, the yoga outlined in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, commonly referred to as Raja Yoga, is an eight fold path. It is the yoga of the mind. The Hatha Yoga Pradipika uses a four fold path; the Gheranda Samhita, seven; the Siva Samhita, five. Although the latter three books outline the steps of their systems slightly differently, they detail a very similar pranic or energetic approach to the achievement of yoga by cultivation and focus of spiritual energy. They also incorporate many of the aspects of practice shared in Patanjali Yoga.

Methodology of the Zuna Yoga® System

The Zuna Yoga® system includes the use of asana, bandha, mudra, pranayama, mantra, meditation, laya yoga, and other components. Through a systematic usage of these tools, practice is directed toward the attainment of health, strength, perseverance, patience and wisdom that awakens us to the what we refer to as the true "promise of yoga": to live free and empowered, to experience the bountiful treasures of life, and the realization of purpose and success. In the Sri Vidya tradition, this is said to be the result of the development of the three shaktis: the power of will (iccha), the power of knowledge (jnana), and the power of action (kriya).

Zuna Yoga® is designed to accommodate a diverse range of perspectives for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of themselves and the gifts of yogic tradition. We offer a variety of courses, workshops and yoga and meditation retreats. These events are not just for yogis seeking teaching certification. The curriculum has been carefully developed to afford everyone the opportunity to learn and grow. Our method is distinguished by four key elements common to every class.

Pranic Breathing

At the center of Zuna Yoga® lies a unique system of breathing that stimulates the vital energies of the body, providing strength, conditioning and balance to the body's systems. This renders a rich experience of inner strength and clarity. It also informs correct, stable and empowered postural alignment.

Balance vs Force

When the body, breath and mind are cohesively aligned, we express power with ease and grace. This is fundamental not only to managing our prana (life force), but also to effectively reducing our limitations. As we learn to embody this attitude during our practice, we begin to carry it forth into our daily lives, meeting our challenges with a sense of peace and self-mastery.

Intelligent Sequencing

A wide variety of yogic tools such as asana, bandha, pranayama, mudra, kriya, meditation, mantra, and systematic relaxation are intelligently combined to create a syllabus guided by the wisdom of timeless tradition and philosophy. Every class is a meaningful journey.

Class Theme

Expanding and directing pranic energy in asana and meditation to awaken the purpose and joy that lies within.

Zuna Yoga® is a system open to all ages and types of people. Everyone deserves the experience of their own magic. Classes are led by well trained instructors, capable of delivering the alchemy of the Zuna Yoga® system to everyone with the desire to learn and grow.
